red channel tends to make skin brighter (mixing red with itself sometimes creates a spooky effect). blue is usually the darkest. mix and match. use multiply unless it's too dark. then use overlay. you can also lighten by using less than 100% opacity. just fiddle til it looks right. and it only works for some pictures. I never know until I try it. bucket told me to convert to b/w this way, so it must be true.
