Needle Musicby posthumousComment by tootsweet: So they were pine needles?
I really thought they were river reeds. Here in the Pacific Northwest, especially in the high desert areas, they are plentiful. So my mind went with something known and I made the wrong assumption. Interestingly enough, the "whistling reeds" have purple flowers. So that would be why I thought you "erased" the pattern of the stalks...didn't know they were pine needles.
BTW - I did give it a pretty high score within this challenge. |

Needle Musicby posthumousComment by JMart: I was one of the people who gave this a 6, so I'll give a go at explaining my rationale, but keep in mind that I'm a relative newbie, so take it for what it's worth...
On the plus side, the pattern is evident, I really love the texture, that bokeh is oh so creamy, and it has a wonderful surreal overall feel. The shallow DOF works for me with the lower left needle that is mostly in the focal plane. The DOF after that gives me a feeling of choppiness as it goes through the middle of the other needles so that my eyes lock on those points in stead of flowing up and down the rest of the nicely textured lines.
It's amazing to me how close this score is to your reflection entry score which was among my top picks for that challenge. But, I had to study that one for a long while to let it sink in. So, I have to echo Melethia on subtleness. Your shots are great for those of us that like studying a photo that throws a curve, but may escape the attention of the 1.38 second voter.
