You see, you are so serious with this hobby, approaching girls behind the bar and all to take great shots of them - not the excuse your wife wants to hear I think :)))-. I believe the intention of the challenge was to take a b&w photo in color mode. This is why desaturation was discouraged. To make it more challenging. I don't think the challenge was to shoot a color photo with b&W in it. It may be a suttle difference in interpretation.

Great job! You met the challenge's theme quite well. And as much as I like the bottle part of this photo and the water/sand/pebble texture of the photo, that reflection is really a detriment rather than an asset. Maybe a wider angle to show what the reflection belongs to would have made it better.
