just having a look thru your portfolio and this one jumped right out at me ... how wonderful it is when a promising thumb delivers so much more .. this is so beautiful .. the lighting you talk about is absolutely perfect in this photograph .. and vaseline on the filter has given you an incredibly excellent result ..
congratulations on your 5th place !! which i only noticed after making most of this comment ..
and yes you do live in the most beautiful area .. where i live is pretty yuk by comparison .. makes you get good at close-ups coz the scenery can be a bit ordinary .. well compared to this sort'v place anyway .. australia's gum trees just arent that attractive ..
i should get out more .. the firetrail is becoming a bit overdone .. !!.. and yet as you would find when you photograph a scene a few times, you can never re-create the exact conditions or image .. :)

Pretty scene, exposed nicely. I feel that a touch more sharpening may have benefited you but that's just my personal preference.
