If I were to say what this picture is about I would say its about the canal and the water. The person just seems to be an extra element that kinda walked into the scene. Composing the shot to put more emphasis on the person would definitely help. For me the shot really ends at the top of the wall because the archway is a such a strong visual element it keeps drawing my eye towards it.

I think your too far away and the two trees are in the way. Just choose a better angle next time. You hav a wonderful out of the box idea but it doesn't really flow all that well.
