I think that this would be a lot better if not for the parts that seem to be a result of moving camera. The focus is really off here, and I'm not really sure what's going on. I'm giving everyone the benefit of the doubt this week, as I'm not a superstition or urban legend expert, but I think that the focus issues distract for me. Good luck in the challenge. ~Hbunch7187~

A good shot, like the light effects, would be better if there was an animal in the shot too, maybe a pig-dog or another ugly animal but I guess not everyone has access to a pig-dog from hell. 9

Good idea, well executed. How about a cracklin' fire? LOL...just kidding. I think it's an amusing photo, but the rug isn't really necessary, and actually takes away from the realism. This is just my opinion, but I think the snail would stand out better away from the fireplace. Perhaps on the couch, or just on the bare floor. As far as composition, tilting the camera up a bit would have included the entire lamp without the top being cut off. The cushion in the front right corner serves no purpose and is out of focus.
On the up side....the lighting is good, showing a fair amount of detail. Dpth of field works fine, once the afore mentioned cushion is gone. Watch your angles...the fireplace and lamp are tilted.
I'd like to see this with a few changes. The idea is good, just pay attention to details. I sincerely hope this is a help. Good luck in the challenge. Grayce aka Gracious
