Shot in RAW and exposed for the sky which left the skater and rink underexposed. To lighten the foreground I used a graduated filter in Photoshop Camera Raw (first attempt at doing that- worked pretty well I think). Some vignet added.

Nikon D80 and Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens at 16mm
1/800 sec at f/3.5 and ISO 100.

I'm giving you either a 6 or 7 (haven't quite decided yet). I would of scored higher if the person standing on the box was not cut off in the middle, or if he would of been left out of the picture all together.

OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for the Mu (most underrated) award:

Positives: Finding this one hard to look at - I've never met anyone who is more anti-smoking than me and normally I wouldn't choose to look at this for as long as it takes me to make these longer comments. This certainly is a slice of life and I certainly do, despite my prejudice, appreciate the authenticity of the image. It clearly pretty rich in social commentary too. Technically, I think the light (and slight vignetting) is the best part of the image.

Critical stuff: Of course you know this is out of focus; I'm not sure it matters and I think you know that too. Extra sharpness would add nothing to the story.

Overall: Not an image that I like, but one that I can respect.
