Thought I would lurk through a few portfolios of some of my fav photog's and finding a lot of new ones in yours which some are just awesome. As for this photo tell your sister she is a beautiful woman and photographs very well IMHO. Her eyes and smile in this one are mainly what caught my attention and made me want to comment.

but I'm really not a fan of the false lens flare, and the general shading, making the rest of the picture look grey

I think you should consider other transfert mode, for this shading effect
