mfwaltherby lissylouComment by emorgan49: I'm clueless about what the username means, I assume it has something to do with guns. This is what would be called a snap shot on DPC and that is not usually a compliment. No matter how much time you spent setting up this shot, it has several flaws that are 'unforgivable" to the voters. First there is not clear point that is in focus, it all looks slightly out of focus. This could be camera shake, it looks like the light was not very bright. At slower shutter speads it is difficult to hold the camera perfectly steady. I could be that the auto focus on your camera could not decide where to focus because the main object is very dark and the light is low. Next the white balance is off. The whole image looks yellowish because of the incandescent light. Most cameras have a white balance setting to correct this. Or a photo editing program could correct it. And last is composition. An object place dead center is not often the most viewer pleasing arrangement. Try placing the main subject at one of the rule of thirds points and see if that improves your score. |

PB280039.JPGby lissylouComment by wavelength: I like this very much, nice and sharp. Consider getting a diffuser screen for you flash, as the higlights are a little blown. always a problem with flash photography though. Alternately, halogen work lights come in handy too. That way the highlight is not direcly on the front of the round surface. |

My Bag of Tricksby lissylouComment by Skip: too busy, too haphazard, too chaotic. there's nothing wrong with your technicals, it's just the composition that keeps this image from going anywhere. |

December Collectionsby lissylouComment by tpoc: hooray for holiday collections! i like the relaxed composition of this photo. i would like to have seen this with fewer wrinkles in the background, and with more color contrast in the ornaments and garland. to my eye, the gold against the white/gold blends things together. (although, i have to say that my boyfriend just looked over my shoulder and said "that's a nice picture!" i told him my comment on the ornament colors, and he said "i think that's the point..." he's usually right about most things!)
: )
a very nice composition and good idea for this challenge! |

My Bag of Tricksby lissylouComment by taterbug: I think this is a really good idea. The presentation though leaves me with a feeling of wanting a little more though. I'm thinking that the background seems just a little too busy and slightly distracting because of the changing color and textures. The composition could perhaps be a little more dynamic if the subject were framed on a vertical across the photo instead of just laid out on center. Also, although the pink bag is a nice color, I find interest in the makeup items and wish the focus was sharper there than as it is now, sharp on the pink bag. Maybe just a little deeper dof would make a difference. Like I said, I think you've chosen a good subject, that has interest, a good eye, good exposure on the shot. A little more care in the presentation could maybe make a considerable boost in the score. Just my opinion of course :-) |
