Comment by canary:
Nice idea and the DOF chosen has isolated the subjects nicely but still too many distractions in the foreground for me.

Good contrast.

The face is a major element conveying emotion, contrary to the challenge's title and guidelines.

Nice capture - Like the expression - A tighter crop getting rid of the out of focus person would create more impact on the girl

I don't get the emotion, and not sure that the guy in the foreground isn't the subject, hence not faceless.

Is addiction an emotion? Quitting is where the emotions came out for me!! Good photo though.

Hmmm. Tom. Something about Tom is extremely emotive here... I know, the dude that's OOF wishes he had a smoke? No, that can't be it. Nothing extremely emotive about that, unless the guy's trying to quit. Wait, oh no - you're not insinuating the dude in the back has a thing for Tom are you? Well, I guess that could be extreme, a major yuck factor, but certainly emotive.

From a technical standpoint the image is well done. Good use of DOF to isolate the guy in front yet leave enough detail in the bg to recognize it. The range in the B/W is well balanced covering the full scale.

Definitely an image that makes the viewer wonder I guess. Good luck in the challenge.
