Still Watersby NovaTigerComment by e301: I like the sense of decay here - like a winter return to a summer home, on a quiet day. |

Still Watersby NovaTigerComment by SaraR: Interesting light, but it is quite hard to make out the elements here. The white loungers(?) take away from the ambience. |

Squared Rigger by NovaTigerComment by AspenD: For all interested, the Lady Washington is based in Seattle, Washington. It tends to travel around a bit but is often in Seattle and does offer wonderful day rides and such. Also, it was used as the HMS Interceptor in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie (the one that gets destroyed). It really is a wonderful picture from a wonderful photographer! :-) |

Wood Printby NovaTigerComment by NovaTiger: I originally tried to get the woody in focus as well, but because of the lack of depth in the image (as in from lens to backdrop) I had to basically shoot a macro shot which, even with f/22, could not give me enough DoF to get the woody in focus. That said, I realized as I looked at the original unedited image before I went to edit it that I prefer having the woody out of focus because it adds dimensionality to what would otherwise have been a very flat and simple feeling image. |

Wood Printby NovaTigerComment by Melethia: Greetings from the Critique Club
This was one of my favorites in the challenge.
As I mentioned in my very short comment during the challenge, I really like this concept. What worked for me with this was the OOF actual woody and the in focus "on film" woody, both in the same pose. I'm not exactly sure WHY this works for me, but it does. I find it interesting that a lot of the other commenters wanted the real woody in focus - I don't think that I do at all - it would change the tenor of the picture completely. Composition with the strong diagonal works well.
The toning also works quite well, though given the "darkroom" imagery, I could also see it toned in red. And you do mention cloning out sensor dust - you missed a few. It's not something I noticed during the challenge but is something when I spend more time with the picture.
Nice work - this is the second of yours that's shown up on my "it's in my top 10, why not everyone else's?" list (the other was the feather).
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. |

Wood Printby NovaTigerComment by posthumous: Nicely done, like the banner of a film company (that does all-woody films). Very expressive model. 8 |

Wood Printby NovaTigerComment by dallasdux: The creativity aspect using the 35mm film is excellent. I wish the main woody figure was a bit more in focus (less fuzzy). 7. |

Wood Printby NovaTigerComment by KHolt: Great duotone, interesting colours. The sharpness in the negative is great, just my opinion, I'd have liked to have seen this through out the image. The photo doesn't tell a story as cleanly as some of the photos, however taken on purely face value - I like it -6 |
