Agree with MAK here, if its only down to an incorrect explanation then maybe you should ask for them to reconsider.

Say if you HAD done something illegal and had typed it up as if you didn't, they'd take your word for it? Hardly. Therefore, if you SAID you did something illegal, but didn't, I would hope they will take another look and ascertain what editing steps actually went into the image.
