Enjoyable assemblage of textures and patterns. The fabric is settled and grounded, which I find comforting. The pied, muted background is pleasing, as are the leaves strewn on the trunk and earth.

Nice try but too much out of focus and too busy. It also doesn't feel like winter to me.

I'd like to see the histogram on this image! From total black to blown out whites. In this case, both are appropriate and necessary. The portions of the light that lack detail, shouldn't have any - like staring into the sun. This works well in composition and as an exploration of grayscale tonal range. Keep the theme!

I'd agree with you that the tonal range is fairly flat, although well-exposed for shadow and highlight. Since I'm also working with mininal B&W for this SC, I'm quickly learning that what I see in the viewfinder and/or camera EVF is often not a good representation of what I'll see on the computer.

This is even true for the set-up I'm using which previews the B&W and tonal setting in the EVF. Lot's to learn. Glad I landed on this theme!

Really nice tonal range and effective mix of soft and hard light.

I'd have mixed feelings too. I hate the thought that the art that went into creating those bonsai was ruined, but at least they were still alive.
