Christopher_1.jpgby GentleSoulComment by SJCarter: Love the composition here and the perspective. The colors are great too. The focus/DOF seems to be a bit off though. Appears as though the focus is actually closer to his hand and the railing than his face (auto?). Very cute capture though. |

deer_2.jpgby GentleSoulComment by GentleSoul: Originally posted by SJCarter: Fun pose! LOL The outdoor lighting was a little harsh, but it's a great capture. |
Hehehe - thanks! Yep, I know the outdoor lighting is kind of lacking, but sometimes you just have to go for shots that make you laugh. :) |

The old-fashioned scent of a womanby GentleSoulComment by SJCarter: I really like what you were trying to achieve here. Beautiful, soft, delicate, and pretty. From your comments, sounds like you learned a lot already - great! For whatever it's worth, I scored this a 5, for basically the same reasons. Technically it's pretty good, it just didn't quite do what I think it could have. :-) |

Pink Kalanchoe #2by GentleSoulComment by SJCarter: You're giving that super macro setting a workout, but it's paying off! Good job. I think this one could use a bump in color and some burning to lose the washed out/blown out areas, but otherwise nice shot. |

Pink Kalanchoe #4by GentleSoulComment by SJCarter: Not quite as strong as your other one, but still a great shot! (This is a good series.) The focus and shallow DOF work really well. The colors seem a little muted/washed out - you might consider burning a bit to deepen the hues/make them richer. Beautiful shot. |

Pink Kalanchoe #1by GentleSoulComment by SJCarter: WOW! Fantastic focus & DOF! Beautiful color tones too. The composition may be a tad cramped, but it's hard to criticize anything about this shot. Great work! |

The old-fashioned scent of a womanby GentleSoulComment by GentleSoul: Thanks for all the helpful comments, everyone. When I looked at the other entries in this challenge, I immediately thought to myself, oh, no - mine's so dull! And that's pretty much the response I got from all of you: technically sound, for the most part, but uninspired.
Considering that this was the first time I tried using a white background and really focused on lighting, though, I'm happy with the results. Now that I have a better idea of lighting for white-background subjects, I can try to be more creative when I decide to shoot them. |
