Sorry to be a nit-picker, but if that Knight is being moved from it's starting square, there isn't any indecion about where it can go... but who cares? I like the idea - I wonder if showing more of the board or having it a little tilted would add a little drama - to make the viewer feel some of the worry of the indecision of the potential move.

Comment by Katspetkat:
I think I would understand this more if the hand was hovering over the knight and not holding it. As it is, I can't tell what the options are. Still, the clarity and the lighting are excellent and I like the way the hand just appears. 7

Two pawns and the 3 left chess pieces are a little blurry. 7

Kojo's Story of Hope

Sorry about this...I probably should have ewntered this into Free Study. Unfortunately, I was blind to realize that the story could not really be read just by the photograph alone. I thought it would have been alright for the viewer to draw their own conclusions. The hope here has to do with hte neglegent family that I got into a conversation with him about after meeting him in the projects of the town that I live in. When I told him about DPC and about what I wanted to take his photo for; he became intrigued and he said he always loved photography. I let him try out my camera and he was so amazed. He said that whenever he went to his friends' houses, that they would have their parents get him a disposable camera and that he'd take it home and hide it and use it and his friends would then develop it. This story really hit me pretty deep. He had a tough life, but he still enjoyed life's comfort. This is why I was comfortable in using this photograph for poverty. Poverty does not always need to mean poor and sad and unkempt and disgruntled, to me and to Kojo it meant something a little bit different. Hope this helps...

Besides the point that from this position the knight only has one square to move to, the dof really needed to be crisper throughout the frame.

A little dark, but I like the backlight on his face. The composition adds a feeling of comfort which is unexpected in such a low key picture.
