Lamborghini Gallardoby redmoonComment by nborton: this pic took some skill. i was looking at my shot from the same challenge and you made this comment:
Originally posted by redmoon: great shot, brilliant conveyance of speed, and well done you for keeping the car in such pristine focus. must have been a right bugger to get right, or at least it would have been for me. 10. |
the funny thing is, i feel the same way about your shot. it would have been a bugger to get the blurring looking real, and for me it was much easier to just pan.
on a side note. the reflection observation is a good one. i would have never noticed.

Lamborghini Gallardoby redmoonComment by redmoon: hello all who looks at this,
thanks for all the jolly and surprisingly helpful comments this past week. i think people generally have a love / hate / not really bothered with it approach to the shot. i must concede, it was stationery, and i had a fair amount of help with PS. the background was motion blurred, and the wheels were spin blurred, and that's about it as far as editting is concerned (tweaked curves and very gently mildy desatted the background to help the car stand out a bit better - black isn't a very photogenic colour for metal, i think). . the more observant of you noted the wing mirrors and the sharp reflection on the side of the car - points i've taken on board (from imagineer and others, for which i'm grateful and i think i've learned from). it isn't actually a race car, it's just a (very expensive, sexy and italian) road car. sorry if people thought it wwas a panning shot - and i hope you don't think i'm a charlatan - i do feel a bit guiltily dirty though...

Lamborghini Gallardoby redmoonComment by nborton: 1/100th of a sec is pretty fast. to get that much blur the car would have to be really moving. as an example take a look at this shot in the same challenge 1/120th . it's just a fraction faster and there is a lot less blur. however, we don't know how fast the race car was moving at the time (it could have been during a caution), or the distance from the car (being closer to the action would mean you have to pan quicker).
just the fact that people aren't sure if it is PS or real tells me that either way was done very well, and probably should have been top 10. |

Berlinettaby redmoonComment by Bran-O-Rama: Beautiful machine and excellent photo! Is she yours? I think desaturating the white of the reverse light made the tailights appear dull. Perhaps you could've left the yellow and white of the reverse and blinkers? |

Berlinettaby redmoonComment by nborton: very good. the blur looks like it might have been done in PS, but it still works very well. one of the better shots this week. if this were my pic, and i wanted to print it or do something more with it, i would clone out the two spots in the lower right section of the car (one on the bumper, and one just to the lower right corner of the brake lights).
good use of desaturation too. |

Berlinettaby redmoonComment by C-town driver: Great composition and cool subject. The selection of the background for the radial blur you used is a little noticable around the B-pillar of the car though. Nice shot nonetheless...... 7 |

Berlinettaby redmoonComment by Glacierwolf: Extremely good picture to select for this challenge. Motion effect is appreciated and very well execuited. Excellent workmanship separating the tail lights from the rest. Would have looked hot if the lights were on - you may not have noticed the slight difference between the lenses. Great work. Rated 9. |
