large cup....a normal sized mug or cup might have gotten your point across better, perhaps....nice idea....needs a cw rotation to level the table.

Fail to see the proportion here. Cause both are unknows here .. It might be a large tumbler .. or a small light. I think a more familiar frame of reference would make this snap much better ..

Good idea, but weak presentation. The composition is staic. That chair rail in the background doesn't help. Even without finding another setting, this composition could have been improved by placing the two objects closer together, and cropping in close, to make a vertical image. This would make the verticals stronger than the horizontals. Right now, they are even. As this image is, you can improve it by cropping all the dark off the bottom, and coming in as close as you can on the sides.

Your photo matches the theme, but it lacks interest. The lighting in the background is too bright and washes out the detail of the paneling and the spacing of the objects doesn't feel right. This seems more or less a simple snapshot of two household items than an artistic interpretation of the challenge.
