The center square area is always empty when visitors are allowed. People do tend to walk a few feet into the square (barefoot) to take pictures, then the security guards eventually shoo them back off of the tile. The visitors are confined to walking around the edges, and into some of the larger prayer rooms within the area under the big domes.

If anyone ever visits Abu Dhabi, this should be a high priority to go see. Security is tight, but it's quick to get in, and best of all it's free!

I missed this one when I was in Abu Dhabi. Wonderful place. I didn't come to Dubai a few weeks ago, maybe next year we will have the chance to meet :)
