Tunnel of the madmansby phooztComment by Nuzzer: Greetings from the Critique Club.
First impressions are that this is a great location but the processing is too much (as your notes allude to)
Technically this is good. The composition is good and it seems exposed nicely to capture the graffiti and not blow out the lights.
Artistically this could be really good if we could see the graffiti better. There seems to be so much here that could capture our interest but the processing hides much of it. A person in shot would have added a lot more too, even if they were in the distance walking along - maybe in that bright area at the end where there seems to be a bollard?
In summary that has potential but it didn't quite make it.
Feel free to PM me if you have any queries.

My Orange Gardenby phooztComment by Nuzzer: Greetings from the Critique Club.
First impressions are that the colours are off. It feels too bright and also a bit confusing.
Technically it seems like the saturation is too high or the HDR tone mapping has gone haywire! Composition is poor as there are orange bits scattered throughout the frame rather than being in an area where our eyes can settle. There are no leading lines to guide us around the placement you have chosen.
Artistically some of the orange pieces look tatty. This couples with the haphazard approach to their placement makes this look like you just threw them down rather than thinking about what a viewer may enjoy.
In summary this shot falls down on both technical and artistic elements and the score reflects that.
Feel free to PM me if you have any queries.

My Orange Gardenby phooztComment by glad2badad: The clarify, highlight/shadow adjustment, or Topaz treatement, really gives this photo a harsh feel. The saturation of blues and yellow/greens are over the top a bit also. Cute idea...just pushed a little too far in post IMO. Good luck in the challenge. |

My Orange Gardenby phooztComment by glennc: The orange slice looks as if it's dried up a bit. Also it is not too attractive. Love the greens. |

stormy weather coming upby phooztComment by sfalice: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
Yes, you have a lovely little girl there and her red costume fits the scene nicely as does that translucent umbrella with the red trim.
Others have mentioned that it would be nice to have more light on her face so I won't dwell on that. I will suggest that you look at this image cropped so that all that empty sky to the left goes away. That includes most of the ugly airplane con-trail. Since this is Advanced Editing, you could clone out any remainder. That would bring the focus to the little girl which is where you want it. You could also concentrate on bringing out the depth of the clouds behind her that have so much majesty. (If it was mine, I'd probably not lighten the area behind her quite so much, but that is an individual thing.)
You live in a beautiful city and a beautiful land that I remember with great fondness from a visit there some years ago.
I'll look forward to seeing more of your work. |
