I think you've done a pretty good job with this Neil. The detail in the post and rails , the snow and the trees mid ground are much better than the original IMHO. I think I'd prefer the orange in the sky toned down a touch or perhaps bring in a small amount of magenta to soften it a bit. Maybe a selected ninja to reduce the noise in the snow just behind the fence. And yes! What is the cloud type formation in the centre left of the image. I also agree with roz with regard to the crop - I like the original in this regard with the fence turning back on itself.

I really like this crop and I like where the fence ends. It feels like the fence goes on forever. The grain of the wood is fantastic and the colors are great. I am not too hot about the noise, especially in the snow in the foreground. Such a beautiful place though.

hey neil .. i love the colours you've chosen .. the yellow in the sky is stunning ..
i also love how the grain is so much more obvious in the wood in the fence ..
the crop is great and gives more drama ..
it is quite grainy but that isnt always a bad thing .. it makes me think that there are very very small particles of snow still present in the air ..
wot confuses me is that cloud that looks more like a small twister, only the wrong shape .. !!!
it looks almost like the snow is rearing up .. a very weird effect ..
i can totally understand why this is one of your favourite places .. it would change each day and give you so many different photographic opportunities .. i'd be watching out for the weird snow tho .. it might be coming to get you .. lol ..
i'm usually a bit careful making any critical comments coz i'm so aware that its just my opinion .. but i cant think of any 'improvements' to this .. 'improvements' being something that often just comes down to a personal opinion when regarding art of this calibre .. :)

& i've thought of something .. !!
i would'v liked to have seen where the fence finishes on the right hand side of the photograph rather than how you've cropped it out .. just so you can see how it curves around out'v sight .. its just the tiniest bit less crop that i'm suggesting .. :)

Definately a good choice on the crop. The increased saturation really brings the skyline out. Unfortunately, in doing so, the noise was increased. If you removed the noise, you probably wouldn't lose too much detail as the texture of the fence will stand out.

Also, what about a gradual mid range upwards curve adjustment to add a little depth to the landscape?

It didn't last long. But the stump is right next to the dock at the camp/house we were staying at--just lucky!
