Sage Brushby sjhulsComment by Jutilda: I love the DOF with that blurry soft background. With some of the grasses in and out of focus, it has a sense of movement in an otherwise steadfast image. Love the textures of the tree. You wouldn't have noticed them as well had it stayed in color. I think BW is totally under appreciated. |

Sage Brushby sjhulsComment by jbsmithana: I like this perspective but it would not likely have done well in the Weston challenge as it does not have a deep DOF.
You might want to know that they do not smile on posting outtakes before voting is complete. : ) |

A Bright Spot in the Storm by sjhulsComment by MargaretNet: Originally posted by nightpixels: This is such a difficult challenge to vote in. In my mind when I hear the word focus I am thinking depth of field has to play a role otherwise how else do we know what the camera has really focused on. This picture is great for a challenge like "Point of Color" and it would have gotten a 9 from me (not 10 because I am not too crazy about the processing style), however I realize that there are many interpretations of this whole focal point thing. In this image everything is in focus and your subject stands out due to significant difference in color compared to the rest of the image not due to it being in focus and the rest of the image not being in focus and because of that my eyes do travel all over the picture and doesn't rest just on your main subject. Very difficult challenge to shoot for and vote in due to various interpretations of the theme. I just gave you my interpretation. Also the bright white snow and the clouds in the background are another reasons that the viewer's eyes are not let to rest on your main subject (those whites keep pulling my eyes away too). I am giving this a 7. Good luck. It should do well. (This is the longest comment I have written for somebody since I joined DPC) |
Interesting comment. Not sure what the topic was though - the challenge or the photo? Or both? :) Message edited by author 2011-04-02 00:26:52. |

Distant Shoresby sjhulsComment by tome: Amazing scene. I guess this is the same image? I think there is some noise in the sky and in the water too (look just above the rocks), probably you went too low with a channel (blue or cyan?). You could try fixing it with a control point, without disturbing the rest of the image. The white looks perfect for me, shiny and in motion.
To be honest, I would have gone with the b&w... but then you're the one scoring ribbons :-) - congratulations, you're doing great! |
