Homesteader in Pietown New Mexico - 1940 - Russell Leeby CoryComment by jomari: Thanks to this beautifully wrought image - and the title (and facilitated by Google) I have just spent an interesting while looking at Pie Town photos and reading a little about them. Thank you, for a most enjoyable bit of nostalgia. This is surely the epitome of the retro theme.

Homesteader in Pietown New Mexico - 1940 - Russell Leeby CoryComment by CNovack: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
Very good lighting and pose that is a nice homage to Russell Lee's work (you made me curious so I googled and enjoyed spending some time looking at his work). I think I see the texture overlay but it is very subtle on the homesteader and the wood post (I think it is adding some color toning). Where I see it most is in the sky (it looks to be a concrete wall or wall with two shades to it). The only suggestion I would have to improve the shot and conjure up a stronger impression that the gent is a homesteader is to mayhap used a different overlay texture which would have given the skintones a look that he indeed works out in the sun (I'm basing this on the photo of Lee's Homesteader in the cornfield where he clearly has the skin tones of a man who works out in the sun and bears the marks on his face) Still a great photo but wonder if the overlay might be too subtle for some of the DPC crowd. |

Miami Condoby CoryComment by docpjv: This in my very honest and humble opinion is fine art. The soft pastel colors are enhancing and in fact contributing to the strength of this composition. The little and soft, off-played by the harsh cutting circular edge..... this is a piece of steel cut by a cutting torch faultlessly and soft colors and golden spots that softens the harsh reality of steel. This is color lines perfectly intersected by double outside cut lines and the vertical lines!
This is something I will look at and rediscover new lines and spots and scratches every time. |
