Skykomish River Rocksby davehamComment by kaiser_chief: Firstly, befire I get to the photo, is there a reason you chose to submit at 600px wide, instead of the maximum 720px........maybe it was to get under 200kb, but is is better, usually, to adjust the "quality" rather than shrinking the photo.........
An interesting collection of rocks with some nice and subtle tones through them. The refelections are good through this image, however the number of rocks, and the apttern they are in, does lead the eyes through the picture searching a little for a subject...........the rocks seem to make an s pattern through the image............. |

Great Sand Dunesby davehamComment by daveham: Thanks to all for the comments. The consensus critique seems to have to do with the strip of blue (not actually sky, but part of the Sangre de Cristo mountains behind the dunes). I struggled with this myself and didn't know which was the right way to go - which makes the feedback here so interesting and valuable. I had one commenter who liked and might have preferred even more of the blue. My reasoning when taking the shot was that I loved the crisp edge to the gradient fade of the top layer of dune, and without the strip of mountain behind it, I found it much less powerful. But, I also admit it is as much distracting as it is defining. I have other shots from this session that didn't include the mountains behind the dune and I like them less. |

Great Sand Dunesby davehamComment by JulietNN: Hi from the Critique Club,
You asked for your shot to have a comment from a member of the Critique Club.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Gorgeous shot,
The only thing is the little strip of blue, it is distracting from the shot. You have done really well with this shot, with focus, sharpness and colours.
Not a lot I can add, as this really is an amazing shot. |

Great Sand Dunesby davehamComment by bvy: Great! I have to wonder, though, what that little strip of sky is buying you here. Without it, it would be almost completely abstract, and to good effect, I think, but maybe that's what you were trying to avoid. Anyway... |

Great Sand Dunesby davehamComment by MacDonald: ahh another sand dune ........ I love these as they take me to a place of calmness and serenity ... what I really like is that you included litle sky and no foreground that wasn't sand.. extra points for that. |
