Challenge: Free Study 2009-09 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-400D Rebel XTi
Lens: Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM
Location: Skykomish River, Skykomish, Washington
Date: Sep 17, 2009
Aperture: f/18
ISO: 100
Shutter: 120 seconds
Galleries: Landscape, Nature
Date Uploaded: Sep 19, 2009

This was taken within the bed of the Skykomish River below the bridge at the historic area of the town of Skykomish, Washington. There was very little light left in the sky and just a bit of light coming from lights on a public walkway on the right side of the river. I used bulb mode and had to take a few shots to find the right length of time to hold the shutter open. Even here with an exposure of 120 seconds, I increased the exposure in LightRoom.

I absolutely loved this photo! I gave it a 10, and I would have put it in the top 5! Nice work!

Didn't even realize you were on DPC until I was reviewing the freestudy results and saw a screenname I knew from the Metro group. Nice going on this one. As you've found, freestudies are tough.

Firstly, befire I get to the photo, is there a reason you chose to submit at 600px wide, instead of the maximum 720px........maybe it was to get under 200kb, but is is better, usually, to adjust the "quality" rather than shrinking the photo.........
An interesting collection of rocks with some nice and subtle tones through them. The refelections are good through this image, however the number of rocks, and the apttern they are in, does lead the eyes through the picture searching a little for a subject...........the rocks seem to make an s pattern through the image.............
