Your photo obtains an interesting balance between space and non-space, and forces the eye to examine the two focal points in such a way that we want to discover a story in the image. I think you have obtained an interesting result with depth of field; the bokeh containing the candle is beautiful, and the element itself reflects the in-focus candle in a satisfying way.

However, in my opinion, there is simply too much "negative" space in this image. I think positioning the candles closer together, with perhaps an even tighter crop, would have made this image have more impact. The image has a kind of duotone feel to it; I would have preferred livelier colour, especially in the flames. Lastly, the foreground candle is not "clean". The surface of the wax looks pitted or even perhaps dirty, which for me detracts. For such a closeup shot, of such a potentially warm image, an impeccable surface is called for, in my opinion.

I like the image overall, though, and it's an interesting take on the challenge.
