Greetings from the Critique Club!

Your photo obtains an interesting balance between space and non-space, and forces the eye to examine the two focal points in such a way that we want to discover a story in the image. I think you have obtained an interesting result with depth of field; the bokeh containing the candle is beautiful, and the element itself reflects the in-focus candle in a satisfying way.

However, in my opinion, there is simply too much "negative" space in this image. I think positioning the candles closer together, with perhaps an even tighter crop, would have made this image have more impact. The image has a kind of duotone feel to it; I would have preferred livelier colour, especially in the flames. Lastly, the foreground candle is not "clean". The surface of the wax looks pitted or even perhaps dirty, which for me detracts. For such a closeup shot, of such a potentially warm image, an impeccable surface is called for, in my opinion.

I like the image overall, though, and it's an interesting take on the challenge.

I hope this helps,
Louis

Jeez this did even worse than my shot. Really like this one, I thought it would have scored way higher. Really well executed

This is gorgeous.. the front candle is nicely focused. A tiny bit more detail on the back one would be nice, but I still like this as is. :) Bumping up.

For the way it's done, there's a bit too much negative space here. Maybe bringing the subjects closer together would have helped the composition. Turning up the colours in the flame may add interest.

I like the look of the candle but not the out of focus one in the background. It's hard to tell it is reflecting in water, though, it could very well be a mirror.

I like this shot...but it's really so, so when it comes to the challenge...I like the dof, and the black...good job

I like this comcept very well but not the phot itself as much. It would be better if the other candle was either in focus or out of the picture entirely. Preferrably in focus, or maybe even three candles. As it is it's almost a great shot, but not quite. I love the look but not the execution.
