A decent photo of a black-headed gull, and harder to get than it may look,but I do wish this was in colour. Whilst your conversion has managed to keep detail in the face, which is good, there isn't a sufficient tonal range across the photo to keep my interest. There is little textural detail, and somehow this seems more noticable in mono.

I was having problems getting the backlighting right. When I pointed the flash down, it ended up lighting the foreground too much. So the flash is actually right behind the top of the bottle. I shot so that the bottle covered most of the flash and let the burst through.
