Gus pouted. It's not like he could do much more, his eyes forever set in such an expression. When Gus was promised reincarnation, his wildest dreams weren't enough to prepare him for this. In his former life, his lips had never been touched by a woman, and he had been promised that his new life would be different. Now, they were touched all too often, but this wasn't what he had had in mind. This gross distortion of his being, doomed to life as a steering wheel and a set of dash instruments, and he can't even say what they do to his...

Gus pouted. It was not as if he could do much else.

Jasper ran from the lighthouse bay, as fast as his feet would take him. His heart felt ready to burst, but he knew he had to make the radio before they struck. His feet barely touched the stairs as he descended. Half way down he heard it. The first of the sounds, sounds he knew were not so distant explosions. "NO!" he cried as he somehow found the strength to go faster. Somehow found the dexterity to leap more stairs at a time without slipping and breaking his neck, ensuring that it would all end without anyone else the wiser.

Jasper leapt the final stair, and burst through the door into the communications room, but it was too late. They were there before him. Those repulsive beings. They who came in the stars. Jasper screamed as he lunged for the radio, trying in spite of the odds to send one final warning, his hand stretched out in definance.

Somewhere, inland, in a lonely room under eighty feet of earth, the screams were heard.

For generations they had lived here. This little scratch of paradise in a seemingly endless expanse of sea. They lived without interference. They lived without prejudice. They lived without judgement. Then suddenly, without warning, that all changed. One night, without warning, something else came. Something evil. Something HUNGRY.

Years later, the trees sigh in the wind, and if one were to listen closely, they would hear the lamentation of loss.

Ferdinand glanced up at the window, knowing that his target lay within. It was supposed to be a simple job, easy money, but now he knew he'd been set up. The eye was watching. So much for simplicity, thought Ferdinand, yet he smiled. Unbeknownst to his employer, his fee had just been raised considerably. Ferdinand stared into the red eye of doom and began to plot, this had just become interesting...

As Bernard glanced to his left, the vixen leaned ever closer to his ear, a seductive breath and a whispered invitation. Bernard raised his eyebrow, and smiled.

He knew those pearls would be worth at least a half-grand on the open market.

It was not until moments later that Edgar made the heart-wrenching and terrible decision to put Ol' Butterscotch down. "He had the Twitches, what else could I do?" lamented Edgar, as he sought to comfort poor Susie. It was not until years later that Susie discovered Ol' Butterscotch had nothing of the sort, but Edgar DID have a problem adjusting the diopter on his camera.

... meanwhile, at the Hotel California, the effects of the blast were felt and seen as an instant darkening of the sky, and a heat not unlike that of a blast furnace, instantly scarring any that stood unprotected in the open.
