The Awakeningby SirashleyComment: Louis thank you very much for your critique. It's funny because the technical aspects of this shot were what really frustrated me. I really wanted to add more contrast to it, but when I tried to, it added allot more noise in the grass. I had to run a ton of noise reduction as it was to make it tolerable. As most know by now, the D200 is terrible with noise at higher isos, and I had to keep the iso higher because this shot was actually taken from the bow of a moving boat. I have never shot in fog before, and I have a new respect for those who do. Its really not easy. Truthfully, I had this image pegged at 4.5-4.7. I had Yospiff take a look before hand and he said it would find a decent fan base and to just enter it any way so I did. I was shocked that it did as well as it did. I think with the Fine Arts challenge, people gave higher scores towards images that moved them and focused less on the technicals. I love Fine Art, but its not something you can just pick up a camera and do, at least I couldn't. Well anyway, I feel the same way about the richer contrast and boldness, I just couldn't find a way to do it with all the noise (I'm sure there is a way to do it, I'm just not that skilled with photoshop) Thank you very much for taking the time comment on my image and thank you for your jury service. |

Deep in the Swampby SirashleyComment: Originally posted by ikopanas: I did not vote this one high, mostly because of the light! I d prefer the shadows to be less shadowed and the lit area on the shot to be less highlighted. And for sure the right area of the shot gives me the feeling of a line that seperates the environment! Hope this helps! |
Thank you very much for stopping by to comment on my image. I agree with everything you said and figured that the harsh light was the reason for lower voting. I also noticed the line on the right side of the image and figured somebody would request the proof to see if I shopped it that way. I seem to get that line allot when shooting stuff like this where sawgrass meets water. I've got to figure out a way to fix that... Thanks again... |

The Empress's New Clothesby PaulComment: So far my third 10 of the challenge, this shot to me is the embodiment of Fine Art... It shows that you don't have to have grain, or black and white, but you can still break the rule of having a razor sharp image, so long as the viewer is emotionally connected to the shot and drawn into the photo... Masterfully done! |

London Eyeby markwileyComment: This shot to me is fascinating. Really a great capture and great DoF... Fine Art makes you stop and wonder, feel emotion, and then interpret what you just saw. This image does all three masterfully, 9 |
