Hi from the Critique Club,

You asked for your shot to have an in depth comment from a member of the Critique Club.

Lovely use of natural light and leaves here

To me your sun bubble is very distracting, cropping that out may have helped with several points in the scoring. I notice that one of your comments said something about the dark green, I actually like it, I think it gives definition to the shot.

The background is a little distracting though, especially the white line running down the shot,

You have done a gorgeous macro of this, you are tack sharp and I can see lots of details in the leaves. I can see nothing that you could do to improve this shot in post processing with colours, sharpness etc

Well done

Hi from the Critique Club,

I can see what you where going for here. You read the description of the challenge and you used the light to create a scene.

I think what is needed here is possible a focus, some sharpening, some focus, a tripod, more lighting, a faster shutter speed.

It is a good idea that you had though, maybe glueing the coins to some string and making them appear to fall into your hand out of a cup might help with the focus issue.

Some light underneath the hand may have helped a little also with the focus. Laying your hand on a table would have steadied your hand and not given you hand shake. The top of your hand is slightly cut off as well with the cup(?) move back just a tad to incorporate the cup and fingers.

Hi from the Critique Club,

Excellent shot, you read the challenge description and used light to make a very dramatic shot. I gave this an 8 whilst it was voting.

There is not a lot to critique here to be honest, a little more sharpness would be my only suggestion.

It really is an excellent emotive shot. Well done indeed

HI from the C Club

you asked for an in depth comment (and your only one by the looks of it) for this shot in the Drama challenge

First off, great shot, i really like it.

I think what is hurting this is the focus issue, it is not that sharp. Most people will want a tack sharp image and not just the hat being in focus.

The more you look at the photo though, the more appealing it does become not sharp. But a thing we all know is that in challenges, most people will look at a photo for 5 seconds and move on.

So bar the sharpness, I also think that this could be a more dramatic black and white. I know that the clothes are black and white, but you have an amazing face to work with as well as the back ground here. Try playing around with the selective colours and saturations, shadow and highlight, then turning it into black and white. This has worked for me several times to bring out details that are otherwise lost.

I actually like the tilt in this, it really works well, as it provides a great leading line.

if you get the chance to redo this shot, do it!!!

Hi from teh C Club

You asked for an in dpeth comment on your shot in this challenge.

First off, I am not sure whether to say eww or wowwwwwww. This is an excellent image of making the imagination soar. It is a very powerful image. We know what it is, but our minds take over as to what it could be, what a powerful thing you have done to us all.

I think that taking the stem off would have given this a more abstract feeling. Abstracts are a weird thing really. Some people think they should just be a blurry odd unrecognized thing and then others think that you should be able to identify it.

I can see nothing that would improve this shot or any suggestions.

Well done on this

Hi from the C Club

you asked for an in depth comment on your shot in this challenge.

First off, looking at your placement, i am very surprised and also surprised at the low score. I thought this was one of the most interesting shot in this challenge.

I think what is hurting this shot is the fact that it is not very abstract. It is an abstract shot, but for some reason most people think of unrecognizable things when they think abstract.

Your post processing is spot on, there is nothing that i can see that i think would improve this shot/ IT is tack sharp, saturations and colours are excellent, good POV and the DOF is very good.

If this had been in the macro challenge I could see it winning a ribbon.

Hi from the C Club

you asked for an indepth comment of you shot for this challenge

first off, nice shot, you have got this macro down pat, well done. As for the abstract part, not so much. IF you had zoomed in on say the screw and the teeth of it, then it would be more abstract but still holding definition.

your focal point is good and your DOF and POV is excellent. In post processing though, play around with the blacks, selective colours and shadow and highlights, then convert it to black and white as this is coming across as fairly flat.

It is an excellent macro and great abstract. I don't think anyone could have guessed what this was. You have an excellent bokeh going on here. Would have been nice to see a little more of the glass/stem? as this has gorgeous flowing lines and gives it a focal point.

I can see nothing that would add to this in post processing
