you asked for an in depth comment (and your only one by the looks of it) for this shot in the Drama challenge
First off, great shot, i really like it.
I think what is hurting this is the focus issue, it is not that sharp. Most people will want a tack sharp image and not just the hat being in focus.
The more you look at the photo though, the more appealing it does become not sharp. But a thing we all know is that in challenges, most people will look at a photo for 5 seconds and move on.
So bar the sharpness, I also think that this could be a more dramatic black and white. I know that the clothes are black and white, but you have an amazing face to work with as well as the back ground here. Try playing around with the selective colours and saturations, shadow and highlight, then turning it into black and white. This has worked for me several times to bring out details that are otherwise lost.
I actually like the tilt in this, it really works well, as it provides a great leading line.
if you get the chance to redo this shot, do it!!!

First off, I am not sure whether to say eww or wowwwwwww. This is an excellent image of making the imagination soar. It is a very powerful image. We know what it is, but our minds take over as to what it could be, what a powerful thing you have done to us all.
I think that taking the stem off would have given this a more abstract feeling. Abstracts are a weird thing really. Some people think they should just be a blurry odd unrecognized thing and then others think that you should be able to identify it.
I can see nothing that would improve this shot or any suggestions.
Well done on this | Photographer found comment helpful. |

First off, looking at your placement, i am very surprised and also surprised at the low score. I thought this was one of the most interesting shot in this challenge.
I think what is hurting this shot is the fact that it is not very abstract. It is an abstract shot, but for some reason most people think of unrecognizable things when they think abstract.
Your post processing is spot on, there is nothing that i can see that i think would improve this shot/ IT is tack sharp, saturations and colours are excellent, good POV and the DOF is very good.
If this had been in the macro challenge I could see it winning a ribbon. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

first off, nice shot, you have got this macro down pat, well done. As for the abstract part, not so much. IF you had zoomed in on say the screw and the teeth of it, then it would be more abstract but still holding definition.
your focal point is good and your DOF and POV is excellent. In post processing though, play around with the blacks, selective colours and shadow and highlights, then convert it to black and white as this is coming across as fairly flat.

It is an excellent macro and great abstract. I don't think anyone could have guessed what this was. You have an excellent bokeh going on here. Would have been nice to see a little more of the glass/stem? as this has gorgeous flowing lines and gives it a focal point.
I can see nothing that would add to this in post processing

You certainly have a macro going on here!!!
This is excellent macro, you are sharp, clean cut, your DOF is excellent and POV is interesting. I belive that the reason this did not score highly was because it is a pretty boring photograph.
But in saying that, you have mastered on how to do a macro, you have sharpness that is tack sharp your leading line is excellent, your colours are spot on.
You have done really well with this, and you have got this macro down, now lets find some interesting subjects!

Super cool shot, i really like it.
There is not a lot to critique on this shot, you have good colours, i like how the background black has a tint of green in it as well. Your gold green, is spot on, your bubble is tack tack sharp, rule of thirds is good, your POV and DOF is spot on.
My own personal nitpick is the end of your interesting shot is out of focus, that is it.
Good shot |

A cool blue shot here and definitely a macro, well done.
I think with this shot, to make it a more powerful one, would be to flip it on end and have a little more black space.
In post processing, some contrast would have separated the bristles some, your colour is pure blue, maybe playing a little with the neutral/black colours in selective colours, would have given you more contrast as well, very nicely done. You are tack sharp, your DOF is excellent.
Good shot
