Dinnertimeby everclear25Comment: Creepy bug shots don't have the broad appeal to score highly. I still like this, however. Gave it a 6, BTW. |

Against the Skyby LadyKComment: I promised you some feedback after the challenge. Here 'tis.
I didn't get around to voting this one. probably would have given it a 6, maybe a 5 if I was grumpy. I'm actually surprised to see that this did almost a dead 5. Good smooth tones in the sky and you caught a nice starburst view of the sun. My only real critique is the tip of the tree is barely cut off. I think perhaps it did so mediocre because it is so similar to stuff that everybody has seen lots of before. On the other hand, there are lots of high scoring images that copy previous winning shots. Damned if you do and damned if you don't! Remember that a 5 on DPC is pretty good anywhere else. Your family will be showing this one off.
You know what? I just realized that this is very similar in comp and features to my July freestudy entry, which scored even a bit less than yours. Maybe comparing the two will help identify some common traits that hurt both of them.

below the towerby kolasiComment: I find this one interesting, because it is similar in nature to the entry my daughter submitted, but you really nailed it. I'm a sucker for a strong perspective view. |

Sonomaby aoatesComment: I'm not sure if the flare is a problem here, or if it adds something dreamlike to the image. |

Le Plateauby jeromeComment: Ah, the old "wideangle with swoopy clouds" entry. Nice golden glow to this and the comp leads my eye nicely. Too bad you couldn't get rid of those modern cars. |

Friday Night in the Alleyby quicheComment: I like the way the light is playing off of the buildings. Nicely composed as well. The image as a whole seems a little soft, though, with some visible noise in the sky. |

Sunset Blvd.by SchmeldontinoComment: I find this interesting, as my outtake for this challenge has a similar treatment of a similar foreground. I'm curious to see how yours does in voting and comments.
I think the horizon line is a bit too centered in the frame. I find it visually divides it into two separate images. Message edited by author 2008-08-13 00:16:23. |

Sunsetby socalsteveComment: Wonderfully smooth blend in the sky. I've had trouble getting that smoothness shooting RAW under advanced rules. Achieving it under basic rules is doing well. |
