femme dominanteby JudiComment: Is this the same woman that was on the tricycle in the freestudy? I see a running theme... |

fish are jumpin'by rinacComment: This was the next one to come up for me, and I paused to come back to it later, but then rollover happened. I somehow thought I had another day of voting. I was on the line between a 5 and a 6. Has a bit of an impressionistic look to it, and the blur is purposeful. |

WALL-E's Worldby Blue MoonComment: I gave it a 6, mostly I liked the interesting textures and I think the selective desat is well done. I was not quite sure of the meaning of the title, however. It relates to the movie Wall-E, and the plant, is my assumption. |

Apocalypticaby cmtcComment: It's really different and makes me examine it a bit. My only critique may be that the centered comp makes my eye land on his tattoo and I don't notice the gas mask for a bit. The OOF trees on the left don't seem to add anything to the image for me.
I think it did not do higher simply because it is a grim image. |

EMPby pamelasueComment: Nice strong detail, sharp focus, some decent catchlights in his eyes. I'm at a loss as to how this came in so low. Maybe just too many people that felt it was a solid 5 and so the people who actually disliked it brought it down.
This one did not come up for me in voting, but I think it would have probably gotten a 6 from me. |

A Less Sensitive Timeby bvyComment: Darn. I was expecting this one to create a little controversy over the implied message. A low score is better if it comes with great comments. It was a good effort and idea though.
For anyone interested, here's what I thought of it when Brian asked my input:
It makes a strong point about attitudes changing. What was once a casual nick-nack is now considered racially offensive stereotyping. I think it could (and will) convey two different messages to different people. The first is that people were thoughtless and insensitive many years ago and we are now better than that. The second way is that we are now overly sensitive and spend too much time walking on eggshells worrying that we might offend someone. Two sides of the same coin.
I'd like to see you enter it. You may get some offended comments and low votes because of the subject, but I think it will also get the attention of the folks for whom a pretty picture is not enough and they want a photo to speak to them. You'll probably clean up on the comments.

Oohhhmmmmby MelethiaComment: What are you doing way down here, woman!? Definitely an odd one. I can see why it came in where it did, but you appealed to Ubique, which is not easy to do.
I will not even guess what I might have voted it, because it did not come up for me. I am pleased to see you entering what you like, however. It's a way more interesting photo than my train! |

I Got Laid Off Instead!by marcbentonComment: Of course, I had to skip the vote on your entry, knowing it was yours. I do have to leave my usual critique however. Your 84k file size indicates you may have some excessive JPEG compression taking away some of the detail and clarity. Always save with as little compression as you can and still sneak in under the challenge limit. You had a lot more overhead with this one. |

The Third Kindby ubiqueComment: I think you nailed exactly what you were after with this. A Posthumous award and appeal to a limited group that likes such things. It did not come up for me in voting and I honestly don't know what I would have given it. The appearance is clearly intentional. I congratulate you on being able to target your audience with such precision.
Added: Also glad to see you jumping into the fray again. Message edited by author 2009-03-08 00:50:30. |

The Formby CarlCanaryComment: Didn't come up for me in voting, but I had to leave a comment on this one. A shame more people did not appreciate such a unique and creative entry. It really is different! I see you did appeal to Ubique. The man is not easily impressed, so appealing to his artistic sense is as good as a ribbon in my book. And Posthumous liked it as well. Double whammy with this one! Congrats! Message edited by author 2009-03-08 00:45:23. |
