"Love You....Great Grandma" by autoolComment: Very touching. I wanted to do something like this, but my younger model (18 mos) didn't seem to want to cooperate!! :-) I think the black and white adds a nice effect, and probably helps to even out the skin tones, some. |

Just hanging aroundby spillerComment: I really like the clarity you have captured here as well as the contrasts between the dark and light, and the plant and "animal." Nice work. |

Flavor of the Weekby natorComment: At the Coca-Cola museum in Atlanta, Ga, there are literally hunderds of "flavors." Ever been there/ I like the desaturation and the nostalgic effect it has. Good work. |

Calamity In 1881by TarbiniComment: CRITIQUE CLUB CRITIQUE

This is one of those pictures that definitely leads the viewer to start asking questions. 5 kids, all at one time. Ouch. Great subject choice for this challenge.
The focus of the stone is very good and enables the viewer to clearly distinguish the writing. Without it, I believe the meaning would have been diminished dramatically. Also, I like the dof you have used. The blurry background hints at the graveyard setting, but does not allow the fence to "steal" attention.
The crop feels a little off to me, but I don't know if backing up would help. I don't think getting closer would. Maybe turning so that it is even more at an angle would add some more drama to it.
The "tone" of the picture is a bit bright, considering the subject matter. What would it look like in black and white? I normally don't comment on outdoor lighting, but in this case, I think it is almost too cheerful outside. Perhaps at dusk it would really give a somber, mysterious air to it.
Nice shot, and best to you in future challenges.

Firecracker????by YomiComment: CRITIQUE CLUB CRITIQUE

A very interesting shot, indeed. I can only imagine what this may have sounded like. I really like the little "tendrils" of smoke that are readiating away from what seems to be the location of the explosion. I think if you could have focused on those, and didn't have some of the background elements (that fence really bothers me for some reason), which are a little distracting to me, it would have been even more interesting.
I like that you have "filled" the frame with the smoke, but an even tighter crop may have been even more intriguing or interesting. Perhaps so that just the center third was showing, and none of the grass on the bottom.
Nicely done, and best to you in future challenges.

Meltingby heidaComment: I like the colors in this, and though I suspect you cropped it this way to not eliminate any of the reflection, I think it would feel more balanced to me if there was more space at the top. Very nicely done, though. |
