Greetings from the Critique Club :)

Hi Ayme :)

Jay looks like a cool turtle :) He apparently likes candy as much as i do.. lol... The detail of the turtle is excellent and the underside perspective is strong also.

As I said in my original comment on this photo, I think the theme of 'candy' is overshadowed by the turtle itself. Candy is present in the photo so it does meet the challenge :)

I like to spend some time evaluating the meaning of each challenge and I don't usually get on the fringes of what I think the challenge means. It's like in the flora competition this week, I see a lot of photos that contain flora, but the flora is overshadowed by some larger and stronger theme in the image... does that make sense?

Keep up the good work :)

Hi Doug...

This is a very interesting concept for the weather challenge :) You have creatively constructed a situation where it looks like the photo was taken from a kite :) This is one of the more unique perspectives I have seen on this challenge.... great idea :)

I don't think there was a lot you could do to improve this photo. There is nothing wrong with it at all... The only possiblities would have been greater distance between you and the end of the string, but that is not likely possible...

Great work as usual :) You have a very creative mind :)

you meet the challenge, but the interest level of this photo is rather weak for me... maybe a daytime shot with some added interest on the perspective would work well :) - setzler

Hi Myqyl...

As I mentioned earlier in the challenge, I really enjoyed this photo. I like shots like this one where the vast expanse of sky with the wispy clouds is highlighted by a thin strip of interesting landscape on the bottom of the frame. The clouds in this scene really make a strong impression... The gradient of dark to light blue in your sky is also excellent. This photo kinda makes me think of the 'old man and the sea' theme... maybe this is a little fishing village on some stretch of rural coastline... It's fun to try to visualize some sort of story to go along with certain photos :)

I don't really have any suggestions for improvement on this photo. I quite like it the way it is :)

Keep up the great work :)

Hi Shari...

I love PEZ :) This photo does bring back a memory of a unique flavor in my childhood... I had a box full of the dispensers and I sort of 'collected' them at one point. The family Friday night dinner at the local fish camp was a treat for me because this is where I found a vending machine that sold the dispensers and candy.

Your composition on this photo is quite colorful and well organized. This composition is definitely worthy of an 'advertisement' photograph. The exposure on this seems a little hot, but I believe you mentioned that you are getting a new camera :) Some of the color saturation is lost due to that problem.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing the results of your new cam :)

Greetings.. this is a special comment from me because it is the 5000th comment I have left on DPChallenge, so I'm gonna give you as in-depth on this one as I can :)

First of all, you met the challenge by showing 'flora' in your photograph. The tree is plainly visible.

Compositionally, this photo is a 'literal' view of a tree in front of a house. There's not much special about this view, and the view doesn't create a sense of 'wow' for me. There are also a lot of distracting elements in this photo. The back of the stop sign is blocking part of your tree...

One thing you may want to try when making a photo is looking for some different and intriguing perspectives. What I see here is simply a tree in front of a house with some pink blooms on it. The pink blooms are the interesting element of this photo, so maybe you could work specifically with those and fill your frame with a few of them?

Creative perspectives will carry you a long way in the photography arena. Show people something they haven't seen before... or show them someting common from a perspective that they are not used to seeing... In a lot of cases, the 'detail' is what makes a photo strong... especially in this particular challenge. This challenge doesn't really lend itself well to creating moods with wide angle scenes.

Take a look around the photos in this challenge that you think are strong and ask yourself what makes them so powerful? Developing the 'eye' is one of the fun parts of photography :)

Cheers....
