Oliver Twistby GeneralEComment: Comment Challenge: Please, sir, may I have some more? The creative angle and focus on the empty bowl make this shot. The fingers on the left side of the image look funky and are somewhat distracting. Perhaps a less fancy spoon and the bowl looking like it had been recently used (liquid or wet bottom or like it had been scraped bare and then the last bit drunk from it) would increase the impact of the picture. To me, the person holds the bowl seems to be an adult, and not a child - not sure what visual cues I'm picking up for that. Overall, a very nice image, and a great connection to the novel. |

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Manby namComment: Comment Challenge: This is a great picture. I love the worried look between his eyebrows, the contrast of the background and the man, and that he is not looking directly at the camera. To me, this speaks of an artists' uncertainty of whether his art will be accepted and appreciated. |

Snow Whiteby PennyStreetComment: Comment Challenge: For me, the yellow pants and red headphone cord makes this shot. There are enough "different" elements in this to keep it interesting, and even worth a second look. The placement of yellow pants' feet is curious, as is the foot position of the seated lady. I find it interesting that you chose to have no one looking at the camera. Perhaps cropping the top about the same distance above her head would reduce the badly distracting white upper floors of the background buildings. |

To the Lighthouse (Virginia Woolf)by KroburgComment: Comment Challenge: What a great lighthouse! I love the yellow of the sky and yellow highlights / tones elsewhere. For me, this wants to be a closer crop. Almost 1/3 of the picture is (basically) featureless black with the two power lines and one road running through it. The same message could have been communicated with less distance. While I love the mountains and yellow sky, for me it wants to be tighter on both sides, focusing on the lighthouse complex and the rock that it sits on. |

Keep the aspidistra flying - George Orwell (1936)by hajekaComment: Comment Challenge: Nice colors & contrast against the black background. The larger part of the plant (on the left) is the part that is OOF. For me, the shallow DOF detracts from the image, rather than adds to it. The patterns in the green are interesting, and the curve of the leaf edge add interest. |

Go tell it to the mountain ~ James Baldwinby NeatComment: Comment Challenge: Beautiful scene. The image is a bit too blue for my tastes. I like the feel of depth. It may be just my monitor, but the tops of the mountains fade into the white (pale blue) of the sky. |

Captains Courageous (Rudyard Kipling)by tomeComment: Comment Challenge. I really like the look of fog/mist around the boats. Not sure these quite compare to the majestic sailing ships of yore, but you've done a great job of capturing a nautical feel, and the size of the ship does not impact the courage of her captain. |

one with natureby grahamgatorComment: Oh come on! I know ants are strong, but it is a bit much to expect me to believe it tied the vine to look like a nine! Very nicely captured with very nice focus and booked. Slightly Oof at leaf at top of nine. |

need glasses by PennyStreetComment: Interesting, but not sure what its saying. Nicely done. Looks to not be easy with the lights, background and glass. |
