so unlike the lighthouse and/or its role in the book. a souvenir of something else perhaps. 3

Lovely. Not much more to say. It's simply lovely. -8-

Awesome colors and perspective. Well done. (Voted earlier)

(Know that I only vote in even numbers.)

A four for you. This has some potential, but here's what's bugging me: The sky is colorful but too blown out. Also, I'm a big fan of center framing, but I don't feel like it works here. I think I'd rather see it landscape oriented and off to one side.

So now you know!

Visual impact here is mixed: nicely framed and centered subject and atmospheric with a cottony sea from the long exposure. However, on my monitor, the colors appear oversaturated and the contrast a little excessive with halos along the contrasty edges caused by a bit too strong sharpening. The centered composition is useful to pull attention to the lighthouse itself, which would or should be the main subject. As to topicality, like so many others in the challenge, this is a very literal take on the title of the book. I haven't read the book but from the synopsis is appears the trip to the lighthouse only takes place only in the last section of the book and may include a sunset, if only in the minds of the characters. Overall, I feel this rates a 5. Could be a 6 with gentler processing.

I like the colors in this. The whites in the sky are a little too bright for me. Your intention may have been to have the lighthouse centered, but I think shifted a little to the right would have been nice.

I would also like to see a little more detail in the lighthouse. Maybe a fill light or a Brightness/Contrast mask to bring it out a little more.

Gave it a 5

Comment Challenge: Love the fire in the sky. Great lighthouse. Perhaps a less centered composition would be an improvement (but how do you give up the fire in the clouds on either side?). Also, the lighthouse appears to be a bit underlit / dark.

This is a nice lighthouse without a doubt but it's not Virginia Woolf's one. It lacks subtlety. lacks longing, philosophical introspections or childhood memories ...
Must be also the fact that we are so saturated with images of lighthouses and sunsets that it's hard to produce one that will blow us away

Very literal. But quite well shot. And unlike many of the other over-literal images, this at least is from a novel that would otherwise be really difficult to find some other concept for shooting, and the lighthouse does after all play a key role in the story.

A bit soft overall, and a bit too much saturation. 7

I Find this less about the lighthouse and more about the dramatic battle happening in the sky behind it.
Personally, the lighthouse is underexposed as the primary subject in my opinion, and i truly cannot stop exploring the sky behind it, detracting from it as the subject.
as pretty as this is, it's getting a 5 from me.

Love the way the sky is lit here.

Good pic of a lighthouse with pretty background and nicely executed. Does it inspire? For me not much. 6

I like how the warlike suncolors encroach on the lighthouse. This is well exposed. Somehow the simplistic composition actually helps this interpretation, the strong embattled soldier. I don't like the blue haziness around his head, however. I think that's a pipe dream. He knows his light is nothing beside the sun. I'd prefer you allow him his pathos, allow us to admire his strength rather than his false hope. 5

7...that's a tough exposure to make. The sky may be slightly hot, but if the colors were even slightly duller, the entire image wouldn't be as appealing IMO. The water is really beautiful.

Luckily it didn't take you 10 years to get there ;) Don't know if this is Godrevy at all, they all look the same somehow. A dynamic looking sky, the lighthouse probably could have gone off centre a bit more for me would help, bur it probably depended on where you shot from at the time. You've handled the light quite ok. 5 .

Apt and meets the challenge. The colors hint at turmoil and changes and the overall impression creates the desired atmosphere. A 7 from me

Pretty colors. The lighthouse seems a little too dark. I would have liked to had seen it a little more exposed and detailed. Gave this a 5

I want to say I've seen this lighthouse in challenge before (maybe a cuttooth?). Anyway, beautiful sky - my word! That orange sunset rocks! The blurry water too! Only think I think could be improved is the front side of the lighthouse which seems underexposed. A splash of some dodging or curves to bring that out would've made a huge difference. I'm missing that detail in the bricks where my eye is drawn to slap band in the middle of the frame. Nonetheless, lovely shot!
