Silent Eyesby MAKComment: Awesome shot. A key for me is that both eyes are clearly visible, even though one side of the face is in shadow. |

The Cool, Cool River - Rhythm Of The Saintsby SteveJComment: IMO, the foreground in shadow just kills this shot. Great gaggle of birds, but the wonderful light in the background just emphasizes its absence in the foregound. Not a whole bunch you could do about it, unless the birds were moving slowly away. |

I Wish You Could Be Here.by ikopanasComment: Why? To look at the moon by myself? I like the idea, but IMO the shot is missing a major component that would pull the user in (use a timer with you on the bench?). Also, because of the angle, and the nature of the bench & water, the shot looks foreshortened, without the expected amount of distance between objects. |

Clark's Nutcrackerby ahjennyComment: This is a very nice shot. Birds are particularly tough to get good pictures of. I like the wind ruffle on its feathers.

Blue Christmas by pointandshootComment: Besides that this shot seems like a stretch for the challenge, there are some issues with the shot that the overall effect / impact do not overcome. The fairly extreme graininess, almost everything out of focus, a long leading line that exits the top of the photo for no apparent reason, the same with a fairly strong white line leading from the rightmost branch to nowhere. The cat's paw batting at the ornament gives some sense of "cute", but just doesn't overcome the distractions. 3
You might try cropping about the paw's width above the last knot on the tree, and maybe on the right side to just remove part of the rightmost branch (paw left 1/3 of shot, to tree trunk another 1/3, and rightmost branches the last 1/3. Just a thought. |

the porch where memory rocks into silenceby posthumousComment: I love the concept and the title. But, for me, the execution just didn't quite get there. Not sure why, but there are a couple of things that work against you with this composition. In the central 3 panes, you've chopped off the top of the "arch", yet at the bottom of each, the entire arch is present, plus some additional unidentifiable "stuff" - generally it is better to balance - if you chop the top, chop the bottom too. Also, IMO, the left and right of the three panels distract - especially the left, which appears like it has lots to look at but, upon closer examination, does not. Plus, the right 4 sections of the picture are approximately the same width, but the area to the left is about 1/2 again as wide.
Again, I love the concept and the title. I also like that the porch could be in perfect condition, but the distortions in the center 3 panels makes it look to be in decay. 4 |
