macro3.jpgby icu1965Comment: From the thumbnail I thought it was a beautiful flower. Stopping down and increasing shutter would have helped bring it into focus better. |

macro2.jpgby desertoddityComment: Good circuit board shot. It has a Tron or Matrix like look. Nice and sharp except where the piece juts way out from the board. Good angle. It may have been interesting leaving off the edges and just showing board. |

Day 3 - Taste the rainbowby LonzComment: Skittles, I believe. I can resist them more than M&M's. Nice use of mirror. I thought you had taken the time to stack them at first look. Maybe some diffusion on the light source would help with the harshness. |

Macro Day 1by socalsteveComment: Welcome to the side challenge Steve. Good start. With an 18-200 zoom make sure you're at 200 to get the closest in, since the specs say it will focus to 20 inches throughout the range. A couple of cheap Home Depot halogen floodlights would help lighting. That would let you use a higher aperture and get more of the control pad in focus. Looking forward to upcoming days shots. |

Bug Eyesby MelonMusketeerComment: Excellent macro showing lots of detail. The drastic crop did cause it to look a little noisy and lost a little detail overall, but still a very good job with the equipment you had. It's always a struggle compromising between ISO, aperture and shutter speed to get the best picture. I'll have to look into those ext tubes. |

macro1.jpgby creek41256Comment: Nice series of shots. I don't have any better guesses than anyone else. I guess valve stem here also, maybe reflected in a chrome wheel. This suits the extra long crop. Nice sharp subject. |

Music Orbby JMartComment: Excellent and very creative shot. Good timing on doing this manually. Lovely world within the drop. You should have saved this for a real challenge. |

day 2 - Dinner timeby boyd2000Comment: Thanks for the comments. Actually I set the 18-200mm lens to 200mm manual focus and set focus for minimum. I closed in to about 18" until the bee was in focus. I did reduce a 13MB RAW to 200KB on save for web, so I think the loss of detail on the flower is from DOF. I did not use a flash, but it was a sunny day. I tried switching to cloudy and shade WB, but it made the flower really oversaturated. |
