By The Light Of The Moonby channeledComment: The moonlight on the clouds has a great soft quality to it. I'd crop a bit more on the bottom, make that diagonal line of clouds fill the frame a bit more. It would be nice if there were more definition to the moon - a sharp edge and maybe some craters. But if your expose was for the face of the moon, you might not get the light on the clouds as nicely |

Faces from the fire: The biography of Sir Archibald McIndoe - Leonard Mosleyby michael_pComment: the lack of focus on the subject and the relative focus on the leaves make me feel like I'm spying on this person, which is a bit of what we do when reading a biography. And I do see faces in the fire... it paints a contemplative moment. I'd crop on the right to tighten the composition - bring our attention to the center of the fire. I wonder how it would look sharp? |

Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Bornby steinarComment: Ah, a favorite book of mine, always brings tears to my eyes. But this picture stand well on its own, and fits well with the title, It captures the intense look of a baby and the feeling of love and nostalgia that a parent gets holding that little hand. The hands are an important part of the piece - a contrete connection between the parent and child that is also an abstract connection you can see in the child's eyes. Perhaps the hand should be in focus too. I wish there was more definitiion in the baby's clothes, so we could see the soft texture, rather than just the bright whiteness which makes the babt's head seem like it is floating, not connected. Still brings tears to my eyes to remember... |

Sun-Tzu, "The Art of War"by ZalComment: I like the angle of the knife almost sticking out of the fram three-dimensionally. I guess the shallow DOF contibutes to that, but I'd like to see more of the knife "sharp" so to speak, and I'd afraid the blood looks too much like jam, which kind of destroys the fantasy...I'd like to see a re-shoot of this. |

The Outcasts of Poker Flatsby beatles1-1Comment: The expression on this woman's face is very interesting, and her gesture as she clutches her bag. I wish there was better focus, or perhaps less blur (faster shutter speed) The background is distracting, doesn't look like a place called "poker flats" |

The Mystery of the Old Castle by Marjorie Zimmermanby agwrightComment: the green makes it very mysterious, and I like the contrast between the smooth lake and the rough, rocky land. This is sunset? or moonlight? I wish I could see the stars better, they're cool. Perhaps with a little selectice processing, you could make the sky's colors more deep and dramatic. I'd love to see it. |

OUTER AND INNER LIGHT - William C. Goughby jjbeguinComment: The book title works well with the photo, and makes a very nice photographic subject. NIce contrast between the quality of lights, and the structure of the building supports the composition. |
