It is 1888. The violin builder from Amsterdam Walter Vedder reads in the newspaper that there is going to be a big hotel build on the location of his house opposite the Central Train Station in Amsterdam. Immediately he understands his position to negotiate with the Victoria Hotel, who has to buy him out. The story has a grand finale that leads to Amerika...........

The novel is mainly about Vedder and the way he thinks to make a lot of money by waiting with selling his property to the builder of the Victoria Hotel.

The hotel is build in 1888 at the same time as the Central Train Station in Amsterdam, for the long distance travellers of that time. You can see on the right middle side that he never sold his house, the hotel was build around it!!

Good book about the remarkeble story on the contruction of the Victoria Hotel. The book won a prize in Holland, AKO award in 2000.
Unfortunately it is only in Dutch.

Not quite sure what a hotel has to do with a government building but it could in another country I guess. This shot is overexposed on the left, and very much out of focus. The tree on the right is a bit distracting also the the shot could be rotated just a bit to the right. A 2

Though probably intended, the lack of focus in this composition does not work for me. Color oan composition are good. I would crop out the words at the bottom.

Too much camera shake. next time try a tripod and bumping the iso. also you need to watch your white balance you have a yellow cast. experiment to see which setting gives you the truest color.

stick around this is an ambitious shot and wiser minds than I can help you here grow.

Perhaps your lack of focus is meant to comment on the kind of headaches one gets in a government building? Perhaps I should know more about this book to understand the connection to a hotel. I wish the photo stood ojn its own better.

Dutch = Double? I assume this was intentional, but it's too jarring to look at.

The focus is off here and it's hard on the eyes. Did you shoot through a window? The color, the buildings are very nice.

The movement doesn't help the shot IMO.

Hint: Slow shutter requires you to hold very steady, a tripod wouldn't be bad idea at all.

Nothing is sharpen here. It´s confuse and unclear. May be cause I´m not know the book! But the same way you need to put somothing in focus, not? Ok, if you try to do a mosaic or a full blured image, fails to, cause of it´s very soft.
