This one is pretty straightforward--my pocketknife (I know they didn't have Cutco in 500BC), with some Bing Cherry syrup added. I got lucky and managed to catch the drop.

Used levels to blow the background completely white, desaturated all but the red channel, and then increased saturation on red.

Doesn't quite work. THe focus is off. Compostition is good and I like the use of red w/ what is basically a black and white shot.
I also think that Sun-Tzu's work was much more about subtleties, planning and taking advantage of propitious moments. This image would be better suited for a Steven King type novel. 4

Ohhhh For the want of a little more depth of field.... and bright red blood.. I like the concept and the contrast, althought I cannot look at it for long with the focus like it is.

hmm...feel that the art of war and the knife stained with blood does not come together... No doubt they are tools of fighting...but it is a bit far-off for me
Would like it in perfect focus though

I like the angle of the knife almost sticking out of the fram three-dimensionally. I guess the shallow DOF contibutes to that, but I'd like to see more of the knife "sharp" so to speak, and I'd afraid the blood looks too much like jam, which kind of destroys the fantasy...I'd like to see a re-shoot of this.

hmmm... I like the shot, very much. It seems you snapped it just at the right time. Not sure if it the best visually representation of the title or the book but I like it regardless

Visually very bold, but I think the DOF is way off, need more of the picture in focus.

Nice, restrained use of color in an interesting composition.

Is it supposed to be blood? It looks so fake. (Jelly?)

I could be horrible here and suggest, to paraphrase Sun Tzu, that if you are not strong then you should not go on the offensive ;) I'd like to see more sharpness in this one, as the idea is good. I'm not sure if that high key background works, as it has the effect of softening all the edges.

Would benefit from some sharpening and better DOF

Very neat shot, I'm only sorry the focus is so so shallow. Here I think you needed to be a bit off center to shoot. Also the light is stronger then it needed to be with the white background. Just my opinion. I do like this only a few points for improvement.

ummm... that looks a lot more like jelly than blood... come-on you didn't want to sacrifice a few drops for a realistic photo?...
