(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) - Very good. The subject is very relevant, and some version of this is always front-page news. The central figure certainly shows the emotion which is present with this subject. I like the slight blur on the hand – shows action and emotion.
(2) BACKGROUND – two things hit me, perhaps both out of your control. First, the sky is overly bright. Probably a cloudy day with high overcast. Second, the man and woman just left of the elbow are smiling. Bad form for an emotional rally. Perhaps a shot a minute later would have found them unsmiling. On the other hand, I like the cropping – gives a good feeling of a crowd.
(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL – Focus and DOF look very good to me . No recommended changes.
(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL – For the challenge, no recommended changes. For publishing, I’d try to darken the sky a tad.
(5) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO – When I first saw this photo, I thought – “front page”. It was made by the centered man who is yelling, and the subject.

Christmas Season is Upon Us ( small town news)

(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) - Good idea to include two lighted reindeer. I just don’t like the position of the one on the right – nose is buried. But I also like the apparent lack of new footprints in the snow.
(2) BACKGROUND – The “pole” on the left is quite distracting; especially since the one reindeer seems to be looking at it. Could you have rotated a bit to your left? The snow fall on top of old prints (?) give the ground some texture, which is really nice.
(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL – Quite good. The exposure is right on, as is the focus. Perhaps a smaller DOF would have helped hide the background.
(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL – Very good. You have the snow white, not gray.
(5) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO – When I first looked at this photo, I had two different reactions. First, I liked the reindeer on the left, but not the one on the right. Second, I like the lighting and overall exposure. – a crisp winter night. Overall, well better than average.

Technically ok - lighting & focus. Re composition - I don't like the top of head cropped off; and I don't like lights at top right. Box doesn't help, but it is "imagery". I think you could have improved this with motion of the arms & knife, giving a small blur; perhaps crouching some. Its very "rigid" here.
