very nice and clean - simple idea well lit and executed.

As a photo for publication work (i.e cover, advert etc) it is perfect. As a standalone photograph probably not so much as there isn't much to look at apart from an old leaf.

heheh, hope she doesn't eat the plant.

Face looks kind of silver - but not enough so I know if it's by design or accident. Nice idea however!

A big hello from the critique club!

Being a designer, the first thing that strikes me about your photograph is it's potential for an advert or book cover.

You have made good use of the page with a lot of negative space which would work wonders for adding text!It also works well for the photograph.

Your clouds are blurred, and i can only guess that your edited that in post processing with some kind of motion blur? Perhaps you created the effect with a long shutter, but I would expect the clouds to be less shaky with the latter.

Regardless, I think it's a fairly unnecessary addition to the photograph. I would have liked it better without, however we all like different things.

My reasons for which is that the night sky kind of represents peace and quite and serenity to some degree, and having something as hectic as a motion blur takes away my perception of night.

I think your moon is perfectly placed, whilst it is overexposed, i like it that way as it's glimmering around the tree trunk which really gives this image a kick.

Please feel free to PM me if you want to discuss this critique

Hello from the critique club.

First off, I find your image very attractive as a piece of art or as a manipulated photograph. The nice blue glow is quite effective and the inside of the lamp where you have denoised it is also aesthetically very nice.

However, if your looking for a high scoring photograph, this kind of editing tends not to do so well on DPC or in other photo challenges.

The emphasis here to the majority of voters is on photographic techniques and ethics. Digital artistry doesn't really fit in with this view.

However, that is not a bad thing, and there are many users such as my self whom enjoy looking at digital art.

Next time, if score was your ideal, I would suggest being a bit more light on the photoshop editing. I think this image here would have really worked as a strict photograph. Obviously a tripod would be needed, and a long shutter - but the light omitting would;d be superb as it is here.

One final thing, digital art or photography - you should try to utilize the maximum file size on DPC which is 640 wide or high. Your image comes in at 400 pixels so there is a lot more room for a larger image.

If you want to discuss this in more detail, please feel free to PM me.

Greetings from the Critique Club :D

The first thing that strikes me about this photograph is the pose - it's very different from the standard bug shot as it seems that he is actually posing for the camera which gives it some true life appeal ;)

A lot of people don't seem to think about eye contact when shooting wildlife, yet the same rules apply as if you were shooting a human, so i must give you full marks here for that.

That aside the composition is both average, and excellent. the location of the bug is pretty average, nothing great but also not too bad. But the position that you have shot him in is second to none. There is a tendency to shoot looking down when taking bug shots, but it seems to me that you have bent down to be level with the bug and thought about the angle of approach.

The one thing that does let this image down is the quality. Overall it is a little too noisy for my tastes, I would hazard a guess that the original photo wasn't 100% in focus and as a result it has been sharpened up a little too excessively.

The fake DOF is average - it's always better to obtain that effect in camera if and when possible though. One bad point about doing that is the DOF never seems to be as gradual as it does when achieved in-camera. It also leaves noise around the sharp object (sen around the legs especially)

Overall I think a final score of 5.5 is a fair one.

If you want to discuss this critique in more detail please feel free to contact me via the PM system.

superlative view. Technicaly the shot isn't all that for me - I think if you had waited / been there at another point during the day the light could have been more spectacular.

Having said that, the important thing is that you have seen and captured a superlative scene -for that my full makrs.
