It's quite something to see some of the things that men do to try to control nature. In the 1930''s, in Florida, they constructed an 8 ft fence across the edge of the Everglades and offered a bounty on deer to try to stop the "deer tick" problem with the cattle here. My dad worked on that project, hauling posts for it.

It's an interesting blip of color in an otherwise pretty barren landscape. Buses were sometimes used for camps here in the Fl Everglades, but the surroundings did not look anything like this. I can see why small planes are popular in that part of the country.

When I was there in Aug 1999, to see the "changing", I was on the left side of the tower, between the tower and the bronze lions. Thanks for jogging the happy memory.

I remember when we went to a beach like this in the Bahamas with Scoobie the Sailor Dog for the first time, where she could run in the shallow salt water. After an hour of hard play, and constant "water biting" fun, she almost exploded, if you know what I mean : P
It was a terrific mess in the 8 ft dingy on the way back to the big boat. It was funny then, and even more so now. : )
