The hard midday light gives this subject some "pop" in this shot. I also like the various textures in the BG. This scene was ripe for a B&W image.

That's a mite strong on the 'paz Scott. It would make a good poster though.

Is that a "social butterfly" in the overlay? She looks sweet with the flower. My first impression was that the overlay represented sheet music, and the title was a song.

Just a little condensation on the lens can cause the soft focus too. It's happened to me at times. There is almost always a street light or tower light within view near the horizon here in S Florida. I find that and focus on it.
Another option is to focus as well as I can by eyeballing the brightest star, then shoot one and look at it zoomed in the LCD.
That was fortunate timing to "catch a falling star" !

That's truly a surreal looking place, esp edited with the merge like this. No wonder it makes you dizzy to look at it. I like it because it has weirdness.

The two other planets were just above the frame in this shot. I like the way you found the slot in the trees for this.

Sorry to hear about the cam Roz. Try a different lens, and also make sure that the Auto/Manual switch on the lens is in the "Auto" position all the way. I would switch it a few times to maybe work out a glitch there. There is probably a AF MF switch on the camera too. Work that one a few times also. Try cleaning the contacts on the lens with a rubber pencil eraser too. My S3 does the same thing sometimes with one of the lenses that I use on it, so I have just learned to shoot manual focus and work around it.
Here's wishing you best of luck with repairs if you need to have it worked on.

Whoa! This might be one of those "minimalist" things. Turn it 90 with the float at the top, and it will be totally abstract artsy. This is great, I love it.
