Party Cricketby RgarciaComment: I gave this photo a 6, so was (unusually for me) there with the bulk of DPC voters. In the photos favour, detail is very good with crisp focus and a depth of field suited to the subject; I particularly liked the antennae reaching up into the light. Things that I might prefer different - that the insect was at least partially facing the viewer; that the little 'hands' were also in focus; that the strip of brighter green was not included. With regard the brighter green, I note that you say you liked it and felt it provided a natural border, but for me it somewhat unbalanced the composition and seemed somewhat superlous to the overall photograph. All in all, though, good work. |

ex·hil·a·ra·tionby smardazComment: There is something about this photo that made me think of a romantisised idea of drowning - of slowly sinking to the depths. Obviously the hair adds to this feel, but also the grainy, mottled background (which i thought fine, by the way). For me the brightness of the face was just a little too much, and I found the horizontal line at neck level very distracting. Nonetheless, this photo elicited a strong emotional reaction in me which is good. |

Shore Upby posthumousComment: To my eyes the dark processing suits the subject, and emphasises the scale and bleakness of the scene. The interaction between the adult and child sends out a spark of optimistic hope... |

Thirsty Dogby jaysonmcComment: No way this came last! I am astounded - I gave a 5, but was torn between that and a 6. For me the focus on the collar was spot on, as was the dog level perspective, which gave me as a viewer the feeling that I was another dog!... |

Peace on Earthby JuliBocComment: A pleasing composition and colour tones, and very apt for Christmas! As you know the slight motion blur has hurt it in the voting - in retrospect you could have afforded to increase the shutter speed at the expense of a shallower dof. Nonetheless, a picture I would have been glad to have taken. |

Hello, My Prettyby noranekoComment: I am being very brave returning to this photo! I would concur with Bassbone - a good macro, but with a little too bright background. The composition suits the subject well. |

Blue Birdby trevytrevComment: This is lovely, especially against the beautifully soft oof bacground - the bluebird looks such a pretty bird, hopefully one day I will get to the states and see one for myself! |
