i guessed he was yawning ..
i take shots of our little katee, the dog, yawning a lot ..
i reckon its pretty funny ..
and when she yawns she does it differently all the time and pulls weird faces ..
anyway ... i particularly like this shot coz you really nailed the focus ..
you could almost present this pic to students studying the teeth of animals .. i dont actually know wot this animal is .. but is does look ferocious .. the nails & his feet are pretty amazing .. they look almost birdlike ...:)

ok .. i just read your comment .. and googled HDR and tone mapping myself because i thought i could learn something as well ..
i do very similar stuff to HDR in my processing a lot of the time, altho not from multiple exposures ... but just doing shadow/highlight and levels and stuff like that .. the resulting image probably isnt as good, quality wise, but at the moment i'm happy with the results .. seeing you put it out there i'll include the site i checked out in my comment .. FAQ - HDR images for photography .. good luck .. its not too difficult to understand, but make sure you're brain is fired up first .. lol .!!.:)

love it .. i was reading your description and the bug was out'v the frame .. so i scrolled up and there he was .. i laughed .. i love bugs and you've caught this one so well .. its a brilliant photograph ... those colours are excellent ...
i was also wondering about the flower .. with its expectorant and suppressant properties .. i cant work that out .. coz an expectorant brings the phlegm up and the other suppresses it .. wot a clever flower .. !!..:)
