The composition is a little flat. A straight on shot of a subject is really hard to pull off while still getting the "wow" factor. Try getting off to the side to create lines (especially diagonals) for more effect. Also the straight on shot makes it difficult to show depth so its hard to keep the picture from looking two dimensional.

The houses in the background are not really something that helps this image so I would try to compose so they aren't in the shot. (Which may or may not have been possible)

You have the possibility of creating a nice contrast between the two colors: the red of the barn and the blue of the sky. I would utilize that if you were to reshoot this.

Creating a greater tonal contrast in post would also make this pop.

I would also ask: What caught your eye in this scene to begin with? What drew your interest? Before snapping the picture take a moment to think about that. (Perhaps I should try that idea myself).

Interesting subject for this challenge. The noise appears to have been added in post rather than being done in camera. If you crank up the ISO on your camera you will get a lot of "real" noise to the shot and give it a bit of an old feel.

The tough part of this challenge isn't getting a noisy shot. That part is easy. Its trying to get the right subject (which you have) and using the noise in the picture to create a certain mood. Words I think of for most noisy pictures are old, nostalgic, ominous and perhaps edgy.

The border is far too prominent in this submission. Our focus should be the picture not the frame.

This appears to have a bumpy look rather than a grainy feel to it.

Use the full size allowed. This might have been a good shot but its too small to tell.

22nd out of 351 and no comments? Weird. Usually you should get at least one or two "Good shot" type of comments anyways.

I like the lighting you've presented here. Its quite subtle. The fade to black on the left of the face is nice as well. This works well for the challenge.

Things to fix? I guess you didn't necessarily need to crop off the top of the head. Then again I am guessing its a self-portrait so it is a little harder to frame the shot perfectly.

I really don't see circles here. They are implied by the trees but its not really strong enough for me to say that there is a circle to be found.

Its a beautiful shot however and one you might have wanted to hang on to for this month's Free Study.
