Car Graveyardby UrfaKComment: Ok...I like the subject matter here. You would have done much better shooting at a different time of day (early morning or late afternoon/evening) to get much better lighting. The light here is a little harsh to me. A much shorter DOF would have given more weight to the cars and given you a more diffused background and foreground. A different perspective would have really helped on this one. (There is the issue of the big "hump" in the way from where this was shot.) Had you been able to pull the clump of weeds away and gotten lower, this would have been much more interesting. Because the colors are not really dynamic, there needs to be something else to draw the viewer in, and unfortunately, there is a lot going on in this shot. :) (I'm no expert!) |

Snow Falling on Cedarby MaryOComment: This has such potential. I really, really like the composition and the whole concept. Brilliant that you used the flash to bump the glisten. The colors seem very accurate. I wish the DOF was a touch deeper to encompass more of the branches. i think you would still have great background bokeh, but you wouldn't feel the need to "see more of the subject". It looks a touch flat. maybe a bit more contrast or shadow/highlight to bring out a little more detail?? (What do I know.) The frame is not adding to the photograph, IMO. :) Overall, I really like this shot. It's sad that the "non'mainstream" shots don't do better here. |

Tundraby lunachickenComment: I like the subject matter in this shot. Because it is Advanced Editing, you might have wanted to try and pull a little more detail out of the sky. On that note, it is a bit hard to determine whether you are making the sky the subject or the mountains. IMO, I might have tried cropping more of the sky out to make those beautiful mountains more of the subject. When it's so close to center (not on a third), it gives equal weight to the sky and land, so you really have to have something dynamic in each to pull it off. The focus and detail is very good. perhaps a run at shadows and highlights might give it just a little extra "sparkle". It's a very pretty shot. (I am by far not an expert, nor do I play one on TV, so take all of this w/a bit of scepticism. :~} ) |

Winter Berriesby cpanaiotiComment: For the record, I love this shot. This is the stuff i really enjoy looking at. Your colors are very good. I like the DOF, but think this may have fared a bit better had you gone a little deeper. The berries are sharp, but the back of the cluster and even the branch attached to them starts to get OOF very quickly. You have oof branch on both sides of the photo. The bokeh is great on this shot. My only thought (and what do I know...) would be to make it a little different and rotate the shot CCW 90º to make it very different. Then you would commant the look of the viewer a bit more. By including the OOF berries it does show depth. Overall...I think it's a very nice shot of a simple subject. |

Web of Woodby Donna21Comment: There is really not much to nit on this shot IMO. I might have tried to play a little with shadow/highlights and get a touch more detail in the wood behind the gazeebo top (guessing that is what it is). It looks a touch flat due to the lighting in the shade This is such a great abstract shot, but I'm finding that abstract is not for the mainstream here, thus doesn't score well in Free Study challenges. (Personlly, I like them very much!) If someone were to get totally picky about this, the shot is every so slightly (minutely) not centered. I think the shot is fun!! |

PowWow Line Upby annigComment: Another photo that "drums" up wonderful memories. The colors and the expressions are so true to these people and you can see the pride in their heritage! Especially in the face of the older gentleman in the dead center. This epitomizes the beauty of these people and a part of life many have never seen! STUNNING! (Make sure you hit the Sun Dance!!) |
