I agree. This one is a toughie. My opinion is based on my own personal experience, but I think part of the reason why it's so tough to shoot is the same reason why it goes to pretty much the same shade of grey when you turn it to BW. This color of red/orange is reflecting light rays pretty much the same length as those reflected by the leaves. The camera can't cope with it. I get a better exposure, or at least one that I can do more with in PP, if I use something else to meter the light, like a nearby gravel path. Just for fun, set a custom white balance by using the flower petal for your 'white' "D I use my trusty black umbrella as a BG, which seems to help the exposure some. I see you brought out some of the yellow in this gorgeous red cana lily, which helped to bring up some detail. For another fun challenge, try getting some of those cute little red-hot roses that come into bloom right about now. Keep on clickin' & I hope this helps some!

That's a great shadow you have there, & beautiful leaf colors. A perfect capture, an excellent crop. The texture of fine water drops adds to the charm. The crop is the last perfect touch.

This candid pose is my favorite kind of butterfly shot (as opposed to the 'dead butterfly' pose showing just the open wings. They really are magnificent creatures. This shot illustrates it.

Well done! Interesting & kind of melancholy, for me. The L end of the cross needs more separation from the BG cross, if I was so lucky & this was mine I'd dodge the BG cross a bit where it meets the white cross.

Isn't it fun to challenge our camera?! The color in this is beautiful, the edges are clear. I don't see abstract here, though. I missed that moment of color & line & form and a secondary, following, moment of recognition. But that's just me!
